Hello, beautiful! I’m Jessica.
Birth Doula
I’m so glad you’re here! I’m the youngest of seven and originally from Virginia Beach where I was born and raised. I was raised in a family that knew and loved Jesus, hence I knew about him for as long as I can remember. I accepted him as my savior and was baptized at 11, but it wasn’t until I was in my early teens that I really started understanding the magnificent, glorious grace of the gospel He bought for me through His death and resurrection.
I met my now husband, Conrad, at a youth conference here in NC when I was 17 and that’s where we first got to know each other. The next year, same conference, I was pretty certain he was the guy for me, I had never met such kind eyes in my life. Later that year I went off to a 4 month Bible school based in Thailand, traveled lots, learned much and sprained my tailbone cliff jumping. I had friends who were at the same time working in Greece in the early days of the refugee crisis to meet and care for refugees as their boats came in, so I “stopped in” on the way home from the Bible school help out. Unbeknownst to either of us, Conrad was also headed to Greece with a different group, and we ended up on the same Island working together for a week. Let’s just say those kind eyes are still my favorite! After we were married, we both felt a lot of peace about moving to NC, though neither of us were from here (Conrad was from many places, but PA was the latest) and that’s how I’ve ended up here. And I’m happy to call NC my home with my husband and three kiddos.
I came to love birth work through the birth of my first born in 2020. The moment of first meeting him was indescribably precious, it’s funny how after 9 months of carrying a child in your womb it can still be astounding to realize this is your baby. While that moment was precious, the labor, merely physically speaking, was not.
Back labor is a beast neither I nor Conrad had prepared for. We were at a birth center run by lovely midwives, and at one point in the labor, the midwife came in during a contraction and gave a delicious hip squeeze that gave so much relief. I was a first timer though who was progressing painfully slowly, and she wasn’t able to be with me continuously. She showed Conrad how to do counter pressure to give relief, but you have to be obnoxiously firm with those hip squeezes, and he was afraid of hurting me, so, I was not very compliant about those whilst in labor, to say the least.
After my son was born I kept thinking about how much relief that simple act of support had brought me. And in that reflection, I felt a deep passion grow in me—a desire for every woman who wants it to have someone by her side throughout labor whose sole role is to support her. Someone who understands where it hurts, when it hurts, and how to bring comfort, grounding, and care in the middle of the intense, beautiful work of birth.
I knew I wanted to be that for women so I jumped in and I’ve been loving this work ever since.
My heart for you as your doula is that your pregnancy and birth would be filled with the peace and presence of the Holy Spirit. That you would feel confident in every decision, equipped with knowledge and supported with care. That you would feel the loving hands of your Father holding you through every stage—from the very beginning of pregnancy to the moment you meet your baby.
It would be an honor to walk alongside you—to support you, ground you, and serve you in this journey.
