MORE ABOUT christa

I’m so glad you’re here! I was born in a little farm community in central Illinois, and moved to Burke County, NC when I was 12. While I did not fully surrender my life to the Lord until I was an adult, I always had a faith that God is real and sent Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. I’ve spent my life encouraging and serving others. I married my high school sweetheart at 20 years of age, and we spent 22 years together before we experienced a difficult split. God has brought restoration to our family, and his wife who has been an amazing bonus mom to our children. My greatest joy out of the marriage are our four adult children, Malissa, Samuel David (whom we will meet when we get to heaven), Logan, and Maura Grace. The Lord has used all of them to grow and strengthen my faith.

When I was pregnant with our first baby, we wanted to take a Bradley Birthing Method class, but there were none available at that time. We bought the book, Husband-Coached Childbirth: The Bradley Method® of Natural Childbirth, by Robert A Bradley, MD, and we both studied that book as if our lives depended on it. Although a home birth was discussed, we felt safer going to a hospital for our first birth. The doctor was pushing for a c-section and other medical interventions. Her efforts to instill fear were met with our confidence and advocacy for our baby. I delivered her naturally after four hours of intense back labor, with the support of her Daddy who knew more about birth than many women. It was as though I had a doula throughout the process. My second pregnancy lasted 11 weeks and sadly ended after an emotionally and physically difficult miscarriage. We named our baby to help us heal.

With my third pregnancy, we considered home birth but did not find a midwife we were comfortable with. I was sent to the hospital for induction two weeks before my due date due to his head being in my right hip, even though I explained he was switching back and forth between my hip and head down. The next morning, after a quick ultrasound confirming his position, my water was broken, and I delivered him four hours later. With my fourth pregnancy, we had connected with a wonderful home birthing community who all used the same wonderful, Christian midwife. She was an absolute blessing from God. I had attended a good friend’s home birth a year prior, and she was with me when I birthed my daughter at home in a birth tub in an intimate family environment. Our midwife knew exactly what to do, and with Daddy Doula’s help and support, our precious girl was born after only 2 ½ hours of active labor.

I have always believed our bodies are created by God to naturally heal. Fun fact: I was born with a broken collar bone that healed perfectly as confirmed by our chiropractor. My birth experiences along with this belief has always given me a passion for holistic care and natural birth. While I considered becoming a doula after my birth experiences, life became busy, and I buried that desire. I spent many years as a home educator to my three amazing children, worked as a Chiropractic Assistant for a couple of years, and eventually brought my children home again to educate them after about five years in various schools. We enjoyed home education over the years, especially our time together, but after their dad and I split, I went back to work and found myself in a corporate position. While home educating and searching for a better education option for my youngest, the world shut down in 2020.

Fast-forward to when my baby got married in April 2024. She quickly became pregnant and began to consider her options. Leaning toward a home birth, she continued to explore her options until she became solidified in her desire to birth at home with her midwife and planned to do so at my home. I woke up on a Monday in January and headed straight for her old bedroom and began making preparations. Her sister joined me, and it was as though we were nesting for her because she called me around 5 pm to let me know she was in labor and would be coming over soon. She brought the birth pool, I set it up for her and stayed with her throughout her labor, working with her midwife team to ensure a calm environment for birth. Exactly 6 hours after they arrived, my grandson made his grand entrance into our lives!

I honestly thought I was just emotional because home birth had come full circle. Over the next few months, I realized my role as an encourager in the body of Christ along with my experiences with the birth process had prepared me to accept my calling to become a birth doula. It is an honor to support women in giving birth as God created us to do. While providing support to my daughter during the difficult postpartum period, I also developed a desire to become a postpartum doula and help new mamas get through the often difficult transition of adding another precious human into the family while struggling with hormonal changes, lack of sleep, establishing breastfeeding, and other challenges. And as a home educator, my passion for teaching continues to this day in childbirth education to prepare and empower moms and dads for their own birth experiences from pregnancy through the postpartum period. My faith drives me to pray for everyone with whom I am privileged to welcome into my circle.

It is my hope that I have the opportunity and privilege to serve you well in your motherhood journey!
